Meaning

Good night.

A polite good-night to elders before bed. Among friends, people say 잘 자.

Romanization follows the Revised Romanization system and is a guide to pronunciation.

Say it to parents, grandparents, in-laws or an older host when they are going to bed, or when you part late at night.

Use it only for someone going to sleep. With friends and younger people say 잘 자 (or 잘 자요 politely), and for a normal evening goodbye use 안녕히 가세요.
