Operator IT JAPAN Inc. (IT JAPAN株式会社) · K-PLAZA.COM
Summary
K-PLAZA.COM Korean Learning does not ask you to create an account and does not ask for your name, email address or phone number. Your learning progress is stored in your own browser. If you take part in the global ranking, your nickname, country flag and scores are also sent to our ranking service and shown to other users. We also collect anonymous usage statistics, and we show ads through Google AdSense on the web version.
What stays on your device
Your progress, scores, settings, selected language and avatar are saved in your browser (local storage). Apart from the ranking data described under “Global ranking” below, they are not sent to our server and we cannot see them. If you clear your browser data or uninstall the app, they are deleted and we cannot restore them.
Anonymous usage statistics
To understand how the service is used and to improve it, we count visits and how often lessons, quizzes and practice sessions are used. For this, your browser creates a random identifier that is not linked to your name, email or device identity. We record the screens you open, starts and completions of lessons, quizzes and practice, the interface language you chose, your browser language and time zone, the type of device (phone, tablet or computer), and your approximate country, which is derived from the request by our server. We do not store your IP address.
Statistics are kept for a limited period (about 95 days) and are used only in aggregate form. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, we ask for your consent before these statistics start, and you can withdraw it at any time through “Privacy settings” at the bottom of the learning screen. We do not run statistics when your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal.
The same anonymous counting applies to the reading pages of the web version (the phrase, grammar and vocabulary pages you may reach from a search engine). When you open such a page, we record the page address, your interface language, your time zone and the country derived from your connection, using the same random identifier as the lessons in the same browser. We do not record your IP address. If your browser sends a “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signal, nothing is recorded, and in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland these visits are recorded only after you have given consent in the learning app.
Global ranking
When you use a quiz or typing practice that has a daily ranking, the app connects to our ranking service. We then store the nickname you chose (up to 10 characters; if you did not choose one, the name of your character or a “Guest” name), the country flag you picked, your interface language, and your best score for each mode and day, together with the time it was set. We also create a 12-character rank code for your device. The code is stored only in scrambled (hashed) form, so we cannot read it back.
Your nickname, flag and score are public: other users can see them in the daily ranking. Please do not use your real name, email address, phone number, social media handle or any other personal information as a nickname. The ranking service does not store your IP address; it is used only briefly in memory to limit abuse. Like any web server, our web server keeps short-lived technical logs for security and operation, and these can contain IP addresses.
Your rank code works like a password: anyone who has it can use your nickname and records. It lets you continue on another device (enter it on the ranking profile screen). Do not share it. We cannot recover a lost code.
The ranking restarts every day at 00:00 UTC. Daily scores are deleted after about 35 days, and a profile that has no scores and has not been used for about 180 days is deleted. You can delete your nickname and ranking records at any time with “Delete my ranking data” on the ranking profile screen; resetting your progress from the beginning also deletes them. If you no longer have your code, contact us at learn.k-plaza.com/en/contact/ and tell us your nickname, and we will delete the matching record where we can identify it.
Other users can report a nickname. We may hide, change or delete nicknames and scores that are offensive, contain personal information or look manipulated, and we may block further submissions. If the ranking service is unavailable, learning continues as usual and the app shows a ranking against practice rivals stored only on your device. Practice rivals are controlled by the computer and are labeled “CPU”.
Advertising and cookies
The web version shows ads through Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies or similar identifiers to serve and measure ads and, where the law allows, to personalize them. Ads are labeled “Advertisement”, and we do not show ads while you are taking a quiz or doing practice.
Where the law requires it (for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland), visitors are asked for consent through a Google-certified consent management platform before personalized ads are served, and can change that choice later through the privacy settings option it provides.
You can manage personalized advertising at https://adssettings.google.com and learn more about how Google uses data at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your earlier visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at https://www.aboutads.info/choices (United States) or https://www.youronlinechoices.eu (Europe). Whether ads appear depends on the interface language and the page.
Third-party services
- Google AdSense and Google Ad Manager, for advertising as described above.
- Your device’s built-in speech synthesis for the “Listen” buttons. The audio is generated on your device; we do not record your voice.
Children
K-PLAZA.COM Korean Learning is not directed to children under 13 (or under the age set by the law of your country, for example 16 in some EU countries). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices and rights
Because we do not hold your name or email, we normally cannot link statistics to you personally. You can delete everything stored on your device by clearing the site data in your browser, and you can block cookies in your browser settings. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or the Korean Personal Information Protection Act), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data and to object to its processing. To exercise a right, contact us at learn.k-plaza.com/en/contact/. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. We handle requests under other applicable local data-protection laws, such as China’s Personal Information Protection Law, in the same way.
Ranking data held on our server can be deleted by you at any time, as described under “Global ranking”. For requests to access or correct it, contact us at learn.k-plaza.com/en/contact/.
Security and data location
We use HTTPS and limit access to the statistics data. We rely on reputable cloud infrastructure providers; data may be processed in the Republic of Korea or in other countries where those providers operate, with appropriate safeguards where the law requires them. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Contact form and messages
If you write to us through the contact form, we store the text of your message, the topic, the optional nickname, the screen language and the time. We do not ask for or store your email address or IP address. The IP address is held only briefly in server memory to limit abuse and is not saved.
After sending, you receive a private link that contains a secret code. We store only a scrambled (hashed) version of that code, so only people who have the link can read the conversation. Please keep it private. If you lose it, we cannot recover it. Your browser keeps a list of your own links on your device only.
Messages are read only by the operator, to reply and to improve the service, and are not shared with third parties. They are deleted automatically 365 days after the last activity, and you can delete a conversation yourself at any time on its page.
The “Translate this reply” button is optional. Google Translate opens in a new tab and receives the text of that reply only when you click it. We do not send your messages to any translation service ourselves. Please do not write passwords or sensitive personal data in a message.
